Meet Ruby
Ruby's Passion for animals began when she was a young girl. When she lived in Mexico, her mom would rescue dogs from the streets that were in bad shape. Her mom would help them get better and then ended up keeping them to become part of the family.
After high school, Ruby's goal was to go to San Diego Mesa Community College and begin training to become a veterinary technician. Ruby was not able to take this path as she needed to work full-time to help her single mother. Being the oldest of five children, she felt she needed to take on that responsibility and set her goals a-side for a while. Working full-time at a fast-food restaurant for three years as well as a part-time janitor made her realize that she wanted something more for herself.
Ruby decided to go back to school and completed a regional occupational program to become a veterinary assistant. She received her certificate after completing a 120-hour internship at Coronado Pet Hospital. Working as a veterinary assistant made Ruby realize that the medical field was not for her. She wanted to interact more with the dogs and not have to see them in pain daily. Ruby was hired as a kennel technician in a grooming salon where she eventually decided she wanted to become a groomer herself.
Ruby feels she finally found her calling while being very happy as a groomer at a local pet resort in addition to a dog walker and pet sitter for Oh Happy Dog!
"I can honestly say that working with pets is a total dream come true!" -Ruby
